The Veterinary Patient Care Coordinator acts as a crucial link between clients, veterinarians, and other hospital staff, ensuring smooth patient flow and efficient communication. This role involves a mix of administrative and clinical tasks, requiring strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Flow Management:
Guiding clients and patients through the clinic, ensuring efficient movement between waiting rooms, exam rooms, and treatment areas.
- Client/Doctor Communication:
Facilitating clear and timely communication between clients and veterinarians, addressing concerns and providing updates.
- Administrative Tasks:
Processing payments, managing financial information, maintaining patient records, and assisting with discharge appointments.
- Nursing Care Support:
May involve assisting with basic patient care tasks, such as monitoring vital signs, administering medications under supervision, and maintaining a clean and organized environment.
- Teamwork and Collaboration:
Working closely with veterinary technicians, doctors, and other staff to ensure optimal patient care and a positive client experience.
Essential Skills:
- Excellent Communication Skills: Both verbal and written, to effectively interact with clients, doctors, and staff.
- Strong Organizational Skills: To manage appointments, records, and patient flow efficiently.
- Problem-Solving Skills: To address client concerns and resolve issues related to patient care.
- Empathy and Compassion: To create a welcoming and supportive environment for clients and their pets.
- Knowledge of Veterinary Terminology: Familiarity with common medications, procedures, and medical conditions.
- Computer Proficiency: Experience with veterinary practice management software preferred but not required.
As the Patient Care Coordinator, you will:
- Monitor the waiting/exam room clients; assist with refreshments/marketing materials; update clients on wait time/patient status
- Maintain open communication with the doctor and technical staff to minimize wait times and maximize patient flow regarding long wait times
- Coordinate patient flow between multiple specialties
- Facilitate discharge appointments for all services
- Perform patient discharges in coordination with the technical team
- Manage patient discharge/visit board and exam rooms; ensure comfortable and timely visits & discharges
*Minimum of 12 months' experience in a medical/veterinary office setting required.
