Veterinary Room Assistant Role Requirements
- Veterinary hospital or canine and feline handling experience required
- An employee in this position must have a sense of caring for animals, be able to lift approximately 50 pounds, walk dogs of up to 130 pounds.
Veterinary Assistant Responsibilities
- Professional client communication and education obtaining medical histories and symptoms along with electronic medical record keeping skills.
- After the appointment – answer questions the client may have, insure that client has received and understands all medications, after care, client education, and follow up appointments needed.
- Provide excellent customer service, and insure that both pets and clients are comfortable and have their needs meet.
- Laboratory procedures preparing or preforming: hematology, cytology, urinalysis, blood chemistry, and fecals.
- Diagnostic imaging - Radiographs and Ultrasound
- Restrain pets for veterinarians and nurses
- Anticipate doctors needs for well and sick pet appointments
- Provide compassionate care for pets, monitor, record, and report physical signs of pets here for appointments or treatments. May assist with hospitalized patients as well.
Compensation
- The base hourly range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00. Our pay ranges are primarily determined by role and level of responsibilities. Within the range, individual pay is determined by job-related skills, experience, and additional factors such as relevant education or training.
