Surgical & Dental Veterinary Technician

Are you the technician everyone relies on when a patient goes under anesthesia? Do you move easily between induction, monitoring, dental charting, and recovery, and take pride in running a smooth, safe procedure day? Old Derby Animal Hospital is looking for an experienced surgical and dental technician who can integrate into our surgery and dental service from day one, and who also values the client relationships that come from working in our outpatient department.

Why You'll Love Working With Us:
✅ Lead where your skills matter most. You'll be a core part of our surgical and dental team, bringing your expertise to every procedure you're on.
✅ Know the patients, and the people, before they reach the OR. All of our inpatient technicians work some shifts in outpatient. We see this as foundational: the trust you build with clients in the exam room carries through to surgery and dental days.
✅ A team with no time for drama. We're accountable, reliable, and focused on the work. People here show up for each other, and it shows in how we care for our patients.
✅ Everyone pulls their weight. Our team gets along, and we share the workload equally. No one gets left carrying the hard days alone.
✅ Serious investment in your growth. Every team member has a defined CE budget and clear development opportunity.

What You'll Do:
✅ Use all your technician skills you've spent years developing.
✅ Place IV catheters, induce and intubate, and manage anesthesia from start to recovery.
✅ Monitor and interpret vitals (ECG, SpO₂, ETCO₂, blood pressure, temperature), then act quickly and communicate clearly when something changes.
✅ Take and position full-mouth dental radiographs, and perform scaling, polishing, and complete dental charting.
✅ Prepare patients and surgical suites, maintain sterile technique, and handle instrument care and sterilization.
✅ Manage pain protocols and post-op recovery, and deliver discharge instructions clients understand.
✅ Keep thorough, accurate anesthesia and procedure records.
✅ Help keep our surgery and dental schedule running efficiently, and share your knowledge with teammates.
✅ Work regular outpatient shifts: assist with appointments, build relationships with clients, and help them feel confident about upcoming procedures.

What You Bring:
✅ 3+ years of veterinary technician experience, with significant hands-on work in surgery, anesthesia, and dentistry. This role is not suited for new graduates.
✅ Confidence managing anesthesia on a range of patients, including higher-risk cases (seniors, brachycephalics, ASA III+).
✅ Proficiency with dental radiography and charting.
✅ Credentialed technician (CVT/LVT/RVT) preferred.
✅ A calm, organized presence under pressure, and a sharp eye for detail.
✅ Strong communication with doctors, teammates, and clients.
✅ An appreciation for client relationships and a willingness to work across both inpatient and outpatient care.

The Details:
Full time: shifts in our inpatient department, along with regular outpatient shifts as part of every inpatient technician's schedule.
