Veterinary Dental Technician
Job Description
Position Summary:
The Veterinary Dental Technician assists veterinarians in providing high-quality dental care to animal patients. This role involves performing dental cleanings, taking dental radiographs, preparing and monitoring patients for anesthesia, assisting with oral surgery, and educating clients on preventive dental care. The technician ensures all procedures are performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with veterinary standards and clinic protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform thorough oral examinations under veterinary supervision.
Conduct professional dental cleanings, including scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatments.
Take and interpret high-quality dental radiographs.
Assist veterinarians during oral surgeries, extractions, and other dental procedures.
Prepare and maintain dental equipment and instruments, ensuring proper sterilization and storage.
Monitor patients under anesthesia, including pre- and post-operative care.
Maintain accurate patient records, including dental charts and procedure notes.
Educate clients on pet dental health, home care techniques, and preventive measures.
Follow all safety protocols, including radiation safety and infection control guidelines.
Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked dental area.
Qualifications:
Credentialed veterinary technician (CVT, LVT, or RVT) preferred; experience in veterinary dentistry required.
Proficiency in dental radiography, anesthesia monitoring, and patient handling.
Strong understanding of veterinary dental anatomy, pathology, and treatment protocols.
Excellent communication skills with clients and team members.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Commitment to patient safety, comfort, and compassionate care.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry animals up to 50 lbs.
Standing, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.
Manual dexterity for fine motor skills in handling instruments and equipment.
