Surgery Pack Room Assistant

Job Summary

Surgical equipment preparation and organization are an essential part of working in a Veterinary Hospital. Adobe Animal Hospital is looking for someone who is detail orientated, has good time management skills, and can follow written and verbal instructions guides. You will be working with a variety of people and helping the technical staff with animal restraint, surgical instrument cleaning, and preparation, basic husbandry of patients, and surgical department support. You will have opportunities to learn and advance your knowledge of animal medicine, surgical procedures and equipment, work with a team of coworkers, and grow personal skills as an employee.

Duties

• Cleaning equipment used in the hospital daily
• Identify surgical supplies and instruments based on images and written information that will be provided for surgical preparation of equipment and surgical packs.
• Maintaining and changing cleaning solutions
• Gas and Steam Sterilization Machinery-Autoclave and Ethylene Oxide (ETO)
• Restrain patients and assist Technicians and Veterinarians for simple procedures
• Routine Cleaning of Surgical Operating Rooms, Treatment Room, and Dentistry area
• Regular supply stocking for Surgery Department
• Surgical and non-surgical laundry: cleaning, folding, organizing
• Husbandry-cleaning cages and recovery areas, setting up cages and runs for animals
• Remain aware of daily schedule needs for the department.
• Preparation, packaging, and proper labeling of surgical supplies and equipment
• Inventory and ordering supplies assisting as needed
• Follow infection control guidelines and cleaning protocols
• Take verbal and written directions from Leads, Co-workers and Management

Experience

• Prior experience in sterile processing or medical instrument assembly preferred but not required; training will be provided for motivated candidates
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology beneficial for understanding instrument functions and surgical procedures
• Familiarity with infection control practices, including aseptic technique, sterilization methods, and endoscope reprocessing standards
• Experience with inventory management systems or supply chain procedures within a healthcare setting is advantageous
• Ability to operate sterilization equipment safely and efficiently while adhering to strict safety protocols
• Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills to ensure accuracy in instrument handling and record keeping
• Commitment to maintaining high standards of infection prevention management in accordance with healthcare regulations

Physical Requirements

• Standing and walking for extended periods of time
• Lifting and carrying supplies, equipment, and patients
• Exposure to animals, cleaning solutions and medical instruments
• Ability to bend, reach, and preform repetitive tasks
• Handling of hazardous material, Personal Protective Equipment will be provided
• Walking dogs for toileting

Scheduling Needs

Part-time, at least one weekend day, morning and/or evening coverage

Pay: From $20.00 per hour
