Job Title: Senior BI Developer
Job Summary: 
The Senior BI Developer is a hands-on, senior individual-contributor role responsible for designing and building NVA’s Power BI semantic data models, dashboards, and self-service reporting solutions. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Business Intelligence, the Senior BI Developer partners with business teams across clinical, operational, and financial domains to turn reporting needs into trusted, high-quality, performant BI solutions—authoring advanced DAX, designing star-schema semantic models, and applying Power BI and Microsoft Fabric best practices. As one of the most technically proficient developers on the BI team, this role builds AI-enabled and self-service reporting capabilities, mentors junior developers on technical craft, and helps uphold the BI development standards and governance the team relies on. The Senior BI Developer is accountable for ensuring the reports and datasets they deliver are accurate, scalable, and widely adopted.

What You’ll Be Doing (Key Responsibilities): 
• Design and build robust Power BI semantic data models—including star-schema and composite models, row-level security, and optimized DAX measures—that connect to the enterprise data lake and Azure ecosystem.
• Apply and help evolve NVA’s Power BI best practices and BI development standards—naming conventions, model design patterns, report design standards, version control, testing, and documentation—so the BI outputs you deliver are consistent, reliable, and maintainable at scale.
• Build AI-enabled and self-service reporting capabilities, using Claude-assisted dashboard creation and insight generation within Power BI and its integration with broader Microsoft Fabric to help business teams answer their own questions.
• Partner with business teams across NVA (clinical, operations, finance, marketing, HR, hospital support) to understand their reporting needs; deliver managed BI solutions for teams without in-house reporting talent, and help upskill those with reporting capability to become self-sufficient on the Power BI platform.
• Execute the full BI development lifecycle for your deliverables—from requirements gathering and data model design through report development, QA, deployment, and user acceptance—delivering on time, on scope, and to a high standard of quality.
• Follow and contribute to the BI governance framework—report ownership, certification, lineage, sensitivity labeling, and lifecycle management—ensuring the reports and datasets you build align with enterprise data governance policies set with the Data Governance team.
• Monitor and optimize the performance of your reports and datasets—query performance, refresh times, and capacity usage within Power BI Premium / Fabric—and surface capacity or licensing considerations to the BI Manager and Data Engineering.
• Collaborate with Data Engineering so that upstream data models, data lake layers, and pipelines are structured and documented to enable efficient, performant Power BI model development and minimize redundant data transformation within the BI layer.
• Track usage, report performance, and user feedback for the reports you own; continuously improve them for accuracy, performance, and adoption; and share regular status updates with the BI Manager and business stakeholders.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Qualifications):
• 6+ years of hands-on experience in business intelligence and BI/report development, with a strong track record building enterprise-scale Power BI solutions.
• Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Power BI, including advanced DAX authoring, semantic data model design (star schema, composite models), Power Query / M, and deployment pipelines, with working knowledge of Power BI Premium / Microsoft Fabric.
• Strong understanding of BI architecture principles—including data warehouse and data lake design patterns, dimensional modeling, medallion architecture, and how BI layers connect to upstream data engineering pipelines—with hands-on experience building enterprise-scale semantic models.
• Experience implementing AI-assisted BI capabilities (e.g., Claude, OpenAI) and integrating them with Microsoft Fabric to enable intelligent self-service reporting.
• Experience working within BI development standards and governance frameworks in a large, distributed organization, and contributing to a BI certified content program and self-service enablement for business users.
• Strong communication and stakeholder skills; ability to translate business requirements into technical BI solutions, explain technical trade-offs in clear business terms, and manage competing priorities across multiple business domains.
Location: Remote-friendly / Hybrid. Must be available to collaborate across U.S. time zones and travel periodically to NVA offices for team and stakeholder sessions.
Travel: Minimal. Once a quarter.
Compensation & Benefits: NVA offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience, including base salary, annual performance bonus, comprehensive health benefits (medical, dental, vision), 401(k) with company match, generous PTO, and professional development support.
Salary: $108,000 - $148,500
AIP: 10%
FSLA Status: Exempt
